Planning to visit Greece?

Are you planning to visit Greece?
There are some things that you should keep in mind.

Do some research about the place you are going to stay.

Some times it's cheaper to book hotel rooms and flights by yourself,so don't go to a vacation office before you have done some research.

Popular places are not always good. There many places to visit in Greece that are not so popular, for example some smaller islands, again do some research about the options you have.

Avoid Athens during summer.Although Athens is a beautiful city and has many places to visit, during the summer it's better to choose another place to spend your vacations.
In my opinion it's better to visit Athens during November,Febuary or March.

Avoid staying at "all-inclusive" hotels, they might be cheaper but it's not so nice to spend your vacations in a man-made environment. You will see more places and have more fun if you just book a regular hotel room or a small appartment and spend your days exploring new places ;-)

Post any questions you have as comments.

About Corfu

In this post I will try to give some useful information about the Greek island Corfu.

Also known as Kerkyra,Corfu is located in the Ionian Sea in Western Greece.
Corfu is a beautiful island, ideal for summer vacations. It has an airport and good connections with the rest of Greece,it has a population of about 111 thousand people and the capital city of Corfu has a population of about 38.185 people.
The island is quite big and its area is estimated at 227 sq miles, and except the capital city of Corfu there are many villages that you can visit.
Corfu is also suitable for campers.Camping grounds can be found in Palaiokastritsa, Agrillos, two in the northern part, Pyrgi, Gouvia and Messonghi.
If you are interested in history Corfu has many ancient castles and buildings waiting for you to explore them!

Summer in Greece

Summer in Greece is pretty cool actually.
Imagine you sit all day on the beach, have lunch or dinner at restaurants(or tavernas) and enjoy your drink at nightclubs and pubs :-) .
Greece has many many islands that you can visit, the most popular are Crete,Rhodes,Corfu,Santorini and Mykonos. But there are also smaller, not so popular islands where you can also have a great time.
I think the best time to be in Greece is during the end of August or mid-September.

Geography

"Greece consists of a mountainous and craggy mainland jutting out into the sea at the southern end of the Balkans. The Peloponnesus peninsula (separated from the mainland by the canal of the Isthmus of Corinth); and numerous islands (around 3,000), including Crete, Euboea, Lesbos, Chios, the Dodecanese and the Cycladic groups of the Aegean Sea as well as the Ionian Sea islands. Greece has the 7th or 8th longest coastline in the world with more than 15,000 kilometres (9,300 mi); its land boundary is 1,160 kilometres (721 mi).

Four fifths of Greece consist of mountains or hills, making the country one of the most mountainous in Europe. Western Greece contains a number of lakes and wetlands and it is dominated by the Pindus mountain range. Pindus has a maximum elevation of 2,636 metres (8,648 ft) and it is essentially a prolongation of the Dinaric Alps.

The range continues through the western Peloponnese, crosses the islands of Kythera and Antikythera and find its way into southwestern Aegean, in the island of Crete where it eventually ends. (the islands of the Aegean are peaks of underwater mountains that once consisted an extension of the mainland). Pindus is characterized by its high, steep peaks, often dissected by numerous canyons and a variety of other karstic landscapes. Most notably, the impressive Meteora formation consisting of high, steep boulders provides a breathtaking experience for the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit the area each year. Special lifts transfer visitors to the scenic monasteries that lie on top of those rocks. Meteora are situated in the Trikala prefecture. The Vikos-Aoos Gorge is yet another spectacular formation. The Vicos-Aoos Gorge is a popular hotspot for those in fond of extreme sports."

General information

Greece is a country located in south-eastern Europe. It is also called "Hellas" and "Hellenic Republic" officially.
Greece has a long history and I will post about that later.

"It is bordered by Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania to the north and by Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea lies to the east of mainland Greece while the Ionian Sea lies to the west. Both parts of the eastern Mediterranean basin, feature a vast number of islands."
